Is it okay to fell a tree with 5 days notice?

The residents of Solihull often ask him questions, and each month, Ed shares some of these with us, and the answers.
Q: I have been told that my tree, which is subject to a Tree Preservation Order, is unsafe, and that if I give 5 days’ notice to fell, I can proceed to have it cut down. Is that true?
A: If the tree is unsafe and likely to fall at any moment, then giving 5 days’ notice is an option. However, the burden of proof is on you to demonstrate this. You are advised to get a professional opinion in writing first..
